This 1977 Music Man Sting Ray I in Black has just the right amount of wear to let you know it’s been used for its intended purpose—and used well. The pre-Ernie Ball design brings that late-’70s Leo Fender weirdness in all the best ways, with a slab body, bolt-on maple neck, and enough angles to make a Jazzmaster nervous. A few electronic changes have been made over the years, but it still sounds punchy, clear, and very alive.
